Le 2 Workshop were tasked with designing a new home, the family’s third, that would ultimately be their last one. Their previous houses were dark and lacked enough space, so those issues were at the forefront of the brand-new, 286-square-meter (3078-square-feet) design. Located near the forest in Lodz, Poland, the Third House From The Sun was built on a strange shaped lot which led to a unique floor plan.
The one-story design’s entrance almost bisects the middle perimeter, which was done after careful research into the ephemeris of the sun, as well as local building rules. They wanted to build an eco-friendly home so capturing daylight when they can is necessary.
Studio Tapooly, led by Polina Broitman, designed this private residence in Ramot HaShavim, Israel for an artist and her family. Spread out over 250 square meters (2,691 square feet), the home’s main space is an open plan with cathedral ceilings. Despite the open nature, it still feels warm and cozy.
Large windows and doors lead to the outdoor space framing views of nature for the homeowners, while keeping the interior light and well-ventilated.
I’m a big believer in the importance of fun and creative workspaces. I think it inspires employees to do a better job and it sure makes coming to work a whole lot more fun, am I right? MSDS Studio gets that and you can see it in their design for the new offices of Shopify Toronto.
The company required 90 workstations, reception & a retail shop, a boardroom, 3 large meeting rooms, 6 small meeting rooms, 2 phone booths, a cafeteria, a kitchen & cafe, gallery, game room, break-out space, and informal work areas within an 18,000 square foot space in a 100 year old brick warehouse. Wanting to keep the idea of an open exchange of information, they designed a floor plan that separates the work areas and functions but without solid partitions.
