Everything should float
Materials: BESTA Shelf unit/height extension unit, black-brown 2 polished stainless steel boat hand rails, 1″ x 4′ 1/2″ plywood, 24″ x 36″ 3/4″ x 4″ plywood planks bolts & bolt backing plates Wall TV mount wood glue
Description:
Process:
I assembled the BESTA… unit completely, knowing I would have to remove the top of the unit, but I wanted to get the spacing of the shelves properly measured. With those, I calculated the size for the frame of the TV mount to have it the proper distance to allow me to put the center channel speaker on top of the finished stand. The stainless steel hand rails are available from any marine supply store – I ordered mine from a place called Defender Marine, based on a recommendation from a coworker who owns a boat.
I cut the 1/2″ plywood down to 24×30, from the 24×48 piece I’d bought at Lowes. I already had some 3/4″ x 3″ planks left over from another project. I drilled the holes for the top and bottom of the framed unit clamped together, using the drill press to get perfect alignment. I think this is important, because this is a TIGHT FIT. It took two people working together to get these pipes into place. The forstner bit is important for drilling a perfect, smooth hole, without any burring or chips.

Materials: EXPEDIT 2×4
Description: It all started when I realized that my new stereo receiver would not fit inside a standard EXPEDIT 13″ x 13″ cubby. I found a mod on here on how to easily double one up, and it just went from there.
So I’ll start from the left and move right.
The EXPEDIT
In the left-most column, I simply drilled four new holes about 3″ higher than they initially were to accommodate my PC tower below and SNES on top, and installed the shelf at that height instead.
Expedit TV Stand for the Music Man

Materials: Expedit, Besta
Description: I’ve wanted a de-cluttered but unique entertainment system in my living room for some time now. After I moved into my new apartment and was finally allowed to wall-mount my flat screen, I had no need for a traditional system. Enter IKEA and the Expedit line.
I wanted to use the Expedit bookshelf series for a few reasons. I really like the Rekordit door idea that was featured on Kickstarter in late January. The idea of using records as doors was just too cool. Unfortunately, during most of the construction of my system the Rekordits still weren’t available. Ironically, as I was finishing up the last steps this week I got an email saying the Rekordits are ready to purchase, but at $ 49/each were a little too pricey for my tastes so I found my own frames instead. That said, they look awesome and very simple to use, go for it if you have the cash.

Cleaning up the Expedit
Resources: Expedit, Leckman, tape, blade, 12×12 cardstock
Description: We just lately bought our second Expedit 2×4 tower from Ikea. I love the versatility of this line. Our strategy for the 2nd 1 was to change the older Tv stand with this tower. The bottom row will house the media in the red Lekman boxes.
