MALM meets NUMERAR Kitchen Island

Materials: MALM, NUMERAR, AKURUM
Description: My wife and I recently bought our first house. Yay! As you can imagine, living in L.A. means housing is very expensive, and we didn’t have very much left in our budget to renovate the new house as much as we would have liked to.
One of the things we knew we wanted to concentrate on was creating as nice a kitchen as our dollars would let us. So that meant the usual suspects: IKEA cabinets, cheaper countertops (we wanted Ceaserstone), and less cabinetry. We also kept the stove that came with the home as we did not have the Benjamins to splurge on a new one. We also kept our old refrigerator. The only appliance we bought new was the dishwasher, also from IKEA.
I’d like to show you how we took $ 559 and made ourselves a pretty cool island that we love.

Mock Built Ins with Malm and Billy
Materials: Malm 4- Drawer, Billy Bookcase
Description: We noticed that the Billy Bookcase and the Malm dressers have the same width. We decided to stack one on top of the other to create a built-in-look while giving us some additional storage. We built each of the two dressers as instructed. For the Billy shelves, we build them as instructed, except we did not attach the top or the back.
Next, we turned the Billy upside down and placed it on top of the Malm. Thus, the base of the Billy is actually the at the top of our shelves. This allowed the top of the Malm to be accessible without being obstructed by the bottom shelf and base of the Billy. The Billy and the Malm are held together by brackets. We also attached each piece to the wall. We then trimmed the base of the billy (now the top of our shelves) with crown molding to give it a built-in look. We also trimmed the bottom of the Malms.

Simple & Stunning DIY Upgrades to Ikea Furniture
Ikea has affordable style down to an art. Personally, I love the store and Ikea’s overall design schemes. The only problem is, when I buy a piece from Ikea, I know that millions of other people have that same exact piece sitting in their homes, which slightly lessens the degree of satisfaction I feel in scoring it.
But, good news! If I’m able to take a great, relatively inexpensive Ikea piece and customize it to my home, my taste, my needs…well, that’s a different story altogether. I’d call that a win-win-win. Like these pieces below are:

Malmus Maximus: hacking MALMs and LERBÄCK into storage bed
Materials: several MALM dressers, lots of timber, mounting parts, glaze, optional: LERBÄCK slatted frame
Description: When I recently moved and needed a bed, I had these expectations: a lot of storage space underneath, preferring drawers because of the cleaner look and storage, and don’t lose space or drawers while placing the bed in a corner. Even when ignoring the prices I found nothing, but luckily I had been inspired by ikeahackers.net.
Concept
When in search of drawers, the [smallest, 40 cm wide MALM] with two drawers was perfectly matching my idea in height, price, handle-free front and of course storage space.
But as I hadn’t wanted twelve small drawers, I also got two of the [80 cm wide MALMs]. As they have a minimum of 3 drawers, I had to cut one out. Both times I cut the lowest one to remove some previous owners’ defects. But apart from that I recommend cutting the top one, which is the easiest way, as you only have to fix the top again, e.g. with dowels and glue or fixing brackets, and you won’t get that small holes at the bottom I got.

Malm Captain’s Bed for tiny NYC Apartment
Components: MALM 6-Drawer Dresser, EKBY TONY/ EKBY BJARNUM, NISSE Folding Chair, 2x4s, Plywood Scraps, Shelving Board
Description: I have a tiny bedroom (about 6ft by 7ft) in a 3-bedroom apartment in New York City and was seeking for a way to make the very best use out of the room. As a student, I nonetheless wanted a desk room to do my operate so that was a should. When I first moved into the area I was using the Tromso loft with the desk attachment underneath and that was about it. Currently being a tall individual nevertheless (I’m about 6’1″) I rapidly identified that a twin loft bed was just not going to function in the long term.
When I stumbled upon Ikeahackers and and saw some Malm hacks for storage beds it got me pondering about how I could make my very own customized built for the room, and with the support of my father and uncle right here is the result! I could not be far more content with the way it turned out!
